1. CAYENNE PEPPER POWDER
Walk into any grocery store or up to a vegetable stand in just about any place in the world and there, among other local fruits and vegetables, you will find bell peppers. Depending on the country they may be called by different names such as sweet peppers, paprika, capsicum, or simply and plainly, as peppers. Besides their name, bell peppers also differ in color. Most of us are familiar with the green, orange, yellow, and red varieties but there are also purple, brown, and very pale yellowish colored bell peppers.
All capsicum varieties are descended from wild ancestors in North America, in particular Central Mexico, where they have been cultivated for centuries. The peppers were subsequently introduced to the Old World, when peppers were brought to Spain in the 16th century. The seasoning is used to add flavor and color to many types of dishes in diverse cuisines.
Chili sauce, on the other hand, is a slightly broader term that could refer to a variety of condiments containing chili peppers. Depending on the culture, chili sauce can be a liquid, a paste, or even a chunky salsa-like substance. Some believe that chili sauce originated from Thailand, while others think it started in the Americas, given the native chili peppers' origins.
