Another challenge facing TiO2 industry suppliers is the increasing environmental regulations and sustainability requirements. The production of TiO2 can have environmental impacts, such as energy consumption and waste generation. Suppliers must invest in sustainable practices and technologies to minimize their environmental footprint and meet regulatory requirements.

Made Safe only allows titanium dioxide as part of sunscreen solutions and diaper creams; all titanium dioxide must be non-nanoparticle. Made Safe does not allow titanium dioxide in any other personal care or household products.

TiO2 itself was officially first named and created in a laboratory in the late 1800s. It wasn’t mass manufactured until the early 20th century, when it started to take over as a safer alternative to other white pigments.

Both P25TiO₂NPs (with or without vitamin B2) were not found beyond the epidermis in 99% of the analyzed TEM images (Fig. 8). This is coherent with previous findings showing that nanoparticles greater than 50 nm can not penetrate the skin, even in vivo models with movement, stretching, and friction [54]. However, in one of the zones, a few nanoparticles were observed inside a hair follicle. This could be due to the follicle exposure after the localized rupture of this physical barrier when rats were shaved in order to clean the area for cream topical administration. This finding suggests that nanoparticle-based sunscreen should not be applied on recently shaved or harmed skin, in order to avoid nanoparticle skin penetration.

In India, purchasers took a wait-and-see strategy because of the concerns about an unpredictable demand pattern following the second wave of the pandemic around the end of September. Whereas in China, producers were heard operating at optimal rates even though export orders were low in July.
