When choosing an outdoor metal lock box, there are a few factors to consider. Wrought iron is generally longer-lasting than cast iron. As we said, cast iron is harder but it’s also more brittle. The extra carbon in its molecular structure compared with wrought iron results in internal stress points that are more likely to fracture under extreme stress rather than bend. There are advantages and disadvantages to this: cast iron is more likely to retain its exact shape without undergoing any warping or bending.

If an aluminium frame is dented or badly scratched, the only solution is to replace it with a new one, which unfortunately involves very high costs. The situation is different with wooden windows, where small scratches can often be repaired, while dents are very rare.

Of course, having decided to build with an aluminium frame profile you will have to decide what shape you want. As previously mentioned, this is the strongest material but it is also one that are not as widely available as some of the other materials.
