- In conclusion, finding reliable suppliers for barium sulfate is essential for businesses that rely on this mineral for their operations. By requesting quotations from multiple suppliers and considering factors such as price, quality, and reliability, you can make an informed decision and choose the best supplier for your needs. Remember to do thorough research and read reviews before making a decision to ensure that you are getting the best value for your money.
One of the most common worries about titanium dioxide is that it could be a cancer-causing agent. The link between cancer and titanium dioxide traces back to a 1985 study where rats were exposed to high levels of titanium dioxide for two years, causing lung cancer. However, not all experts are convinced by this study.

Despite a bullish trends ruling the market for the bulk of the period, the North American market had mixed sentiments in the fourth quarter of 2021. This was mostly due to the adequate pushback from the supply-demand imbalance, which was further compounded by rising natural gas prices, which had taken a proper toll on the future production of numerous minerals, including titanium dioxide. An increase in COVID instances had prompted concerns in ore feedstock. As a result, during the fourth quarter of 2021, the FD UGSC (USA) quarterly average negotiations for the chemical CP Rutile Grade were finalised at USD 4434 per tonne.
The paints & coatings segment contributed the largest in the global Lithopone market share. It is added to paint as a white pigment to enhance its surface properties such as UV resistance and resistance to fungicidal and algae growth.
- Titanium dioxide is widely used in coatings due to its excellent UV resistance, opacity, and durability. It is commonly used in paints, coatings, and pigments to improve their performance and appearance. Titanium dioxide can effectively scatter and reflect UV rays, making it an ideal choice for outdoor applications that require protection against sunlight. Its high opacity also helps coatings achieve better coverage and color consistency.

Titanium dioxide is used in the production of paper and textiles to improve whiteness, brightness, opacity and durability. It’s often used in fabrics, yarns, paper and other fibers.
Buff percentage refers to the amount of uncoated or partially coated titanium dioxide particles in a product. A higher buff percentage generally indicates a lower level of coating, which can impact the overall performance of the titanium dioxide. Manufacturers must carefully control this percentage to ensure that their product meets the specific requirements of their customers.

There are numerous manufacturers of titanium dioxide; the largest include Delaware-based Chemours (a spin-off of DuPont Chemical), Texas-based Kronos, and China-based Lomon Billions Group, all of which manufacture pigments for use in products like paints, coatings, and plastics. UK-based Venator is a major supplier of titanium dioxide used in food and cosmetics, along with paints, paper, plastic, and more. As a pigment, it is called Pigment White 6 (PW6), titanium white, or CI 77891. As a food additive, it is known as E171.
As mentioned above, these oxide NPs are harmful in part because both anatase and rutile forms are semiconductors and produce ROS. Particularly, P25 kind has band-gap energies estimated of 3.2 and 3.0 eV, equivalent to radiation wavelengths of approximately 388 and 414 nm, respectively. Irradiation at these wavelengths or below produces a separation of charge, resulting in a hole in the valence band and a free electron in the conduction band, due to the electron movement from the valence to conduction bands. These hole–electron pairs generate ROS when they interact with H2O or O2 [43,44]. It was described that they can cause an increase in ROS levels after exposure to UV-visible light [45]. The NBT assay in the studied samples showed that bare P25TiO2NPs produce a large amount of ROS, which is drastically reduced by functionalization with vitamin B2 (Fig. 5). This vitamin, also known as riboflavin, was discovered in 1872 as a yellow fluorescent pigment, [46] but its function as an essential vitamin for humans was established more than sixty years later, and its antioxidant capacity was not studied until the end of the XX century [47,48]. This antioxidant role in cells is partially explained because the glutathione reductase enzyme (GR) requires it for good functionality. This enzyme is the one in charge of the conversion of oxidized glutathione to its reduced form which acts as a powerful inner antioxidant and can quench the ROS [49,50]. The cost of this action is that the glutathione is converted to the oxidized form and needs to be recovered by the GR. Consequently, the cells need more vitamin B2. Another glutathione action is the protection against hydroperoxide. This activity is also mediated by riboflavin. Therefore, local delivery of this vitamin seems to significantly help the cells in their fight to keep the oxidative balance, once they are exposed to high levels of ROS.
However, they did find that minor levels of 0.01% were absorbed by immune cells — known as gut-associated lymphoid tissue — and may be delivered to other organs. Currently, it’s unknown how this may affect human health (17Trusted Source).
In terms of dietary exposure, titanium dioxide is often used in a variety of food categories, including bakery products, soups, broths, sauces, salads, savoury based sandwich spreads and processed nuts. It is also used in confectionary, chewing gum, food supplements and cake icing.
Why does the exposure route matter, and what's the risk?

Lithopone, a white pigment composed of a mixture of zinc sulfide and barium sulfate, has become an indispensable ingredient in the paint industry. Its unique properties, including excellent opacity, high brightness, and resistance to weathering, make it highly valued among paint manufacturers. As the demand for sustainable and efficient paint products grows, the role of lithopone and its suppliers has become more critical than ever.
