Rubber tapes are generally non-adhesive, and are either equipped with a liner or are linerless. Stretched and overlapped layers will fuse or bond together to form an effective electrical insulation and moisture barrier. For low-voltage (1000V or less) applications, rubber tapes should be stretched during wrapping so that tape width is reduced to approximately 75%. For high- and medium-voltage applications — where the electrical stresses are high (e.g. connector areas, lug areas, and cable shield cut-back areas) — tape should be stretched just short of its breaking point.

No protective equipment or specialist tools are required to use self-amalgamating tape, and a pair of scissors to cut the tape is all that is needed. The tape features a peel-away backing paper (to stop it from sticking to itself before needed) that has to be removed prior to use. Once the correct length has been cut, and the backing removed, the tape can be stretched and applied; when the tape is being wrapped around a cable, for example, ensure that each layer overlaps the previous. Overlapping in this way enables a stronger bond between layers and a 50% overlap is usually recommended, with 3-4 layers of tape being advised. Stretching the tape as you go will ensure a tighter wrap is created and will help the tape to stick to itself more effectively. The bond between the layers of tape will usually take only a few minutes to form but is capable of enduring for years.

• Are there different types of control boxes? Pump control boxes can really be separated into three (3) different types, Quick Disconnect (QD), Standard, and Deluxe. The QD boxes are designed for smaller horsepower motors and generally include 1/2hp, 3/4hp, and 1hp applications. Standard control boxes cover 1hp-10hp while Deluxe boxes cover 2hp-15hp. The Deluxe boxes have the addition of a line contactor which allow for an alternate wiring configuration of the pressure switch. Another notable difference between the QD box and the Standard/Deluxe boxes are the presence of overload protection in the Standard/Deluxe boxes.
